From the look of the two different watches I gathered that the Submariner would be a lot easier to handle. In fact, the Casio seems to me a lot of fiddling about . But of course you are absolutely right, that they are not watch collectors.
However, the Submariner looks just fantastic!

The M.N. issued circa 100 Rolex 5513 in four batches between 1968 & 1975. Maybe only 50 are left today.

The M.N. issued circa 250 Casio in 1997/1998. They were real action watches:

What type of strap is there attached to the Submariner? It looks like one from a Fifty Fathoms

Hi Theo,

It seems he 5513 from the Marine Nationale were issued with rolex band 9315 originally. Though a lot of them were worn with "Tropic" plastic bands . Those band were availlable at the Rolex AD and are very hard to find today.
