Mehr Druck hat definitv Italien gemacht, wenngleich die Leistung alles andere als berauschend war - viel zu viel Abspielfehler bzw. unnötige Ballverluste.

Paraguay hätte aber keinesfalls einen Sieg verdient.

Germans show the way forward

THE headline in the mass-circulation German tabloid Bild reflected the pride of a nation.
Our Youngsters Bewitch the World, it swooned.
The side that demolished Australia 4-0 on Sunday night have also bewitched England.
For Fabio Capello's team know they HAVE to bounce back from their drab draw with the USA and top Group C if they are to avoid playing the Germans in the next round.
It may only have been one match. And the quality of the opposition may not have exactly been top-drawer.
But the inescapable conclusion is that Germany are on the march again after producing the stand-out performance of the World Cup.
Even more remarkable than the pace, control and effortless running on the ball was the fact the side contained NINE players of 26 or under.
While England have their oldest team to ever contest a World Cup, Germany have their youngest since 1934.
And who would they like to thank for their key role in producing this young superteam?
Why US, of course! Good old England, always willing to help our Saxon brothers.
Because it was the 1-0 defeat of Germany by Kevin Keegan's side in Charleroi at Euro 2000 that as good as ensured they would be knocked out at the group stage.
This set alarm bells ringing all over the Fatherland.
It was almost unheard of for a country that had won both the World Cup and the European Championships three times to be eliminated so early.
So millions of euros were immediately invested in Lilleshall-style football centres.
Millions more were donated to schools.
And, in a radical move, all clubs in the top two divisions without an academy were told they would not have their licences renewed - allowing them to operate as clubs - unless they established one.
Those already with academies were instructed to beef them up - and, ironically, to look to those in England as the prototype.
All this was facilitated by the German Federation and the Bundesliga operating from under the same roof - not at each others throats like the FA and Premier League.
The results have been staggering. At one time this year, they were European champions at Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level.
And the team that swept Australia aside included three players - Ozil Mesut (21), Sami Khedira (23) and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (24) - who won the Under-21 title by thrashing England 4-0 in Sweden last summer.
And what of the England starlets? Only the over-age James Milner has made it to South Africa while Micah Richards, Theo Walcott and Adam Johnson have been discarded.
And there we have another of the great differences between us and the Germans - to go with their superior technique, the vastly superior academic records of their players and football intelligence.
They are prepared to give young players a chance.
Take Schalke keeper Neuer. Six months ago, he was Germany No 3. Then following the tragic suicide of Robert Enke and an injury to Rene Adler, he suddenly found himself thrust into the World Cup spotlight.
There was no prevarication as there is with Joe Hart, who is supposed to be too young and too inexperienced.
Then there's striker Thomas Muller (20). A year ago he wasn't even in the Bayern Munich team.
Then both Luis van Gaal and Low decided to fast-track a player with obvious talent. Now look at him.
As Jamie Carragher said: "Joachim Low has done a great job in bringing some of the Under-21 lads through.
"I don't know what their mindset is at tournaments but it may well be a belief of always being there at the end."
And how. If you want to know what an incredible footballing nation the Germans are, just look at their finishes at all the major tournaments they have entered since 1954.

It goes: W, S/F, Q/F, F, S/F, W, W, F, R2, W, F, R1, F, S/F, W, F, Q/F, W, Q/F, R1, F, R1, S/F, F.

Astonishingly, they have only once failed to reach the World Cup quarter-finals - in Argentina in 1978.
And they have qualified for all 16 they have entered.
No wonder the national side is known as Der Mannschaft (The Team). Or, more specifically, Der Turniermannschaft (The Tournament Team).
And they don't waste £850m on a national stadium - they rotate from ground to ground.
But back to the team - a side that has acquired added pace in the absence of injured skipper Michael Ballack.
A side that sees Per Mertesacker with 63 caps, Bastian Schweinsteiger 72 and Lukas Podolski 74 - and they are all still only 25.
No wonder they are chortling. No wonder Franz Beckenbauer puts the jackboot in, claiming England - on their showing against the USA - have taken a step backwards with kick-and-rush football.
But, perhaps, there is a silver lining to England's current predicament. Two weeks ago in Liechtenstein, Germany were replaced as European Under-17 champions by, believe it or not, England.
It was the first time we have ever won the tournament and our first success at any level since a team boasting Sol Campbell, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Nicky Butt won the European Under-18 title in 1993.
There could be life left in the old lion yet.

Ich könnte dafür k*tzen, wenn ich die Pressestimmen in der Zeitung lese. Ständig dieses dämliche "Blitzkrieg", "Vaterland" und "deutsche Panzer"-Geschwafel...

Genau so siehts aus Rossi.

Man könnte gerade glauben, die gesamte Journaille wäre um die 80 und würde auch ebenso alte Leser ansprechen. Deppen.

Ich finds geil, dass die jungen Spieler die fitter als die alten Säcke sind auch mal ne Chance bekommen. Hätte ich zur letzten WM schon gut gefunden.

Joakim Low macht das schon alles richtig.

Nach gestern Abend kann es keinen Zweifel mehr geben: Weltmeister wird nur Italien ! Genau so spielen sie immer und irgendwann stehen Sie im Finale. Auf dem Weg dahin wird durch die guten Beziehungen zur UEFA oder FIFA noch der ein oder andere gute Spieler des nächsten Gegners am grünen Tisch eliminiert (Frings 2006 oder Ribery in der CL) und schon klappts .

Ach, wenn du einmal in England mit nem deutschen Team warst wundert dich nix mehr.

Die Jungs kennen ausser 10 German Bombers oder dem Flieger als Provokation überhaupt nix.

Da macht dich keiner wegen deines Vereins an, sondern nur und ausschließlich der WW2 ist das Thema...egal ob dein Gegenüber 10 oder 80 ist.
