    16660 Dilemma

Folks, I need your help. I have been looking for a Sea Dweller to compliment my collection of Subs (5508, 5513, red 1680, 16610LV). My initial view after reading lots of blogs, and visiting forums such as these was to go for the legendary 1665. I also fancied the look of the 16660 matt dialled one as well. But the 1665 seemed to be the flavour of the month as that is what collector's were aspiring towards. In searching for one, I came across a few 1665s and they just did not connect with me. Maybe it was the way they did not sit flat on one's wrist, I do not know what it was but I just did not fall in love with the watch and I was very disappointed. Then I came across a 16660 by chance in my travels and saw this one. It’s a solid piece not in A1 condition, no papers or box etc. But as soon as I tried it, I knew this was the SD for me. With the transitional matt dial, it was the perfect cross roads in the SD history by which time Rolex was perfecting the SD. So I need your wise heads to inform me to guide me on what to look for and what are the pit falls from what you can see if this is worth getting. I am sorry the pictures are not great; it was done via my phone. The price is very reasonable considering it is one of the rarest SDs around. Thanks!

I love the matt SD, just recently tried on one, and for sure I am going to get one within this year. I would say, go for it, it has the vintage matt dail,s but has a safe saphire crystal. It has both the advantages of vintage and modern combined.

    Regards,
    Victor

There are several specifics you need to check with a triple6: the bracelet has unique endlinks and clasp, the caseback is different from the 16600 SD etc.

Tritium often flakes off the indeces, crystals have chipped edges and cases are often heavily polished.

I like all classic SD and find it difficult to decide which I like best. However, an excellent 16660 is a very nice watch indeed!

    Gruss, Anatol

second one looks better to me... indexes are more patine, i like it very much and for first one you have to buy extra bracelet 93160 like this... hard to find older one for 666 both watches ok depense of the price... 666 without papers you´ll get for approx 6,5k €, with box & papers for 8k.

Thank you Rallenpeng. Anatol was kind enough to update me on the bracelet. Unfortunately the second one does not have the correct one that you and Anatol mentioned. I have 2 questions which I hope you or anyone else in the forum can help me with:

    1) How easy it to find this bracelet? Is it worth waiting for one with the right one?

    2) I noticed the the font on the date plate was slightly different to ones posted on the internet and books. The 9 and 6 for example are closed whilst the ones that I have seen, these numbers usually are open. I know the modern Rolexes have them as closed, but I am not sure if these have been around for a while and if it is correct for this watch. The serial number from the 7million range.

Am I being picky and ignore this and bite the bullet?

Here is link with the date on 19 to show you what I mean:

And thanks again for your feedback. BTW your watch is beautiful!!

    Ein flottes Trio.....

    ist die absolute Untertreibung.

Die 3 SDs hätte ich auch gerne.
