First few photos taken with my new iPhone 3Gs>>>>>>

Finally got my pre-ordered iPhone 3Gs (black 32GB) from AT&T last night. I mostly upgraded for the MUCH improved camera - looks like the 3mp camera is VERY capable of taking decent wrist shots as well as reasonably decent snapshots. Here's a few pics from the round of golf this morning with my son:

I've not taken too many photos with it yet, but it does seem to have the tendency to under expose outside. I'm guessing third party aps will come out which help better control the camera's capabilities. But the wrist shot was particularly impressive - nice macro.

Seems to be perfect for wristshots!

...and ONLY for that...if I look at the other pics (and I am sure, John, you will agree), sharpness and decent color saturation looks comparable to these disposable cam's....to me it is still "just" a phone..

Only wrist shots? I wouldn't go that far. I'm still getting used to it. I have found the photos to be a bit on the "noisy" side - nothing a pass through a digital noise filter like Noise Ninja won't easily fix.

I think the first and the third photos are best - that second one I didn't get quite in focus correctly. But that was likely more operator error than camera quality. Again, the photos the camera is capable of producing will likely improve with future 3rd party aps.

What I can say definitively at this point is that:

1)The quality of the iPhone 3Gs camera is light years ahead of what came before it.

2)It's capable producing EXCELLENT macro shots and eliminates the need for me to carry around a second camera for that purpose and

3)It can produce very usable "snap shots" which might not be as high-quality as what can be produced with a dedicated digicam, but very impressive for a phone.

Don't get me wrong John - the photos are OK, but just "OK"...to me it is still a phone that comes with a camera. I am not referring to your photos in particular. You are not using your Canon to call home...right ?

Well, I understand...but that's not really the point. I'm not suggesting my iPhone will replace my DSLR.

The third photo - the wrist shot - is a lot more than "OK." That's a darn good shot. Now I no longer have to carry around a little point-and-shoot camera when I want to take a quick wrist shot...or other type of snap shot. The previous generation iPhone camera were largely unuseable. From that perspective, they've come a LONG way.

I too use the camera from my phone ... and it was one reason to left the iphone behind (actually I´ve one from samsung with 5mp),
but now it seems to be enough for daily use. No more, no less.
    Thank you for the pictures,

    Christian
