Because John asked specifically about my thoughts of his review and he may not understand the previous comments:
I expected a more "in depth review" and how the book is related to the other Mondani-Books (see Elmar's comment).
The conclusion "It’s a very enjoyable book that even the casual Rolex fan will find fun!" leaves an important question open: Is the book now for the serious fan or for the casual fan..?
Again, a less diplomatically written review with more facts would provide the potential buyers a better selection guide even within the Mondani portfolio. These books are not commonly found in a book store and they are a quite substantialinvestment.
Also, as Peter pointed out, a substantial mistake on the cover page should not be found in 300$ book.
Cheers,
Bernhard

I'm Sorry we are in the english section of RLX .
I would say: if you have the other "Mondani" Books, its not necessary to buy this new Book !

While I represent Mondani here in Germany, I prefer the Submariner Story, or Daytona Story, or GMT books. In addition, I think the "100 years Rolex" was an excellent book and Giorgia refers to the book as the best book her father has ever written. Probably the truth, and it is sold out soon if it is not already sold out.
The Total Rolex book is more for the casual Rolex fan, nothing for the serious collector. I am getting a copy of it in a couple days for a client and if it arrives unsealed, I will shoot some pictures and give my short review about it as well. I would view this book more as a coffee table book. So depending on which book from Mondani, they all have their specific function. And there is not really much of an alternative out there if you are looking for a good book about Rolex and even Patek or Panerai.
There is Pucci's Daytona book which plays in a league of their own at 4000 Euros. And Stefano has written an excellent book about the Daytona. Contentwise I would rate it absolute the best book on Daytona, but his pictures are not comparable to the other two books.

As you did a lot of excellent reviews before, John, I expected a lot but this one is without details on a very low level. It is more a summery of facts for the press. You did not get me hooked on it.

The Total Rolex book is more for the casual Rolex fan, nothing for the serious collector.
I think that if some of the respondents to this thread think about it, there's not upset with my review - their upset that this book isn't for them, the serious, hard-core Rolex collector. It's not so much that the review lacks depth but rather the subject matter does.
The goal for this book was to have something at a lower price point than the other more definitive research volumes that Mondani has put out, and make something a bit more accessible for the casual collector. There's not a lot of "meat and potatoes" to this book - it's a Rolex picture book, plain and simple. Between that, and the fact that this really is simply a modest update to the previously released ROLEX GALLERY, there's simply not that much to tell about the book.
That said, I think it does have value to any Rolex enthusiast even relative to the other Rolex books Mondani has produced. For once thing, it's smaller in size and weight than several of the other Mondani volumes. Sometimes I just want to sit with a book on my lap and thumb through the photos - this book is much better for that purpose.

John, I could not agree more with you.
It is kind of funny, a lot of people criticize the Mondani books, but I bet noone has ever thought about the work that goes into creating such a book? Let's start with getting the watches on one table which are shown in such a book? I doubt that anyone here is able to do that. They would very quickly realize how difficult that alone is. Not to speak about the level of perfection regarding photography, and content as well. And just like you, John, do I like a coffee table book with nice pictures of Rolexes to look at. I have the book on my table sitting now. It will be delivered to my client soon.
