Kauai, oder auch: Heading further West... :-)

Aloha!

Normaler weise packe ich ja alle meine Kurztrips, die ich von SF aus starte, in meinen Heading West Thread. Da diese aber meistens auch mit Arbeit etc verbunden waren und auch nur 1 bis maximal 3 Tage dauerten, gibt es zu diesem Trip schon einen Unterschied.

Deswegen widme ich meinem Trip nach Kauai einen eigenen Thread. :)

Ich habe gerade einen atemberaubenden Helicopter Flug hinter mir, sitze an der Theke der Barefoot Bar, neben mir spielt eine Band Hawaiianische Musik. D kommt man schon ins Grübeln, wie wunderbar das leben eigentlich manchmal ist. :verneig:

Wer kein regelmäßiger Leser meines Heading West Threads ist:

Ich bin hier, da ich gekündigt habe, und die zwei Wochen vor dem Anfang des neuen Jobs überbrücken wollte. Denn freihaben in San Francisco, wenn alle anderen arbeiten, ist auch nicht so spannend. Daher fing ich an zu überlegen wo ich hinfliegen könnte. Am Ende stand es zwischen den Bahamas und Hawaii. Beide Wettervorhersagen waren nicht so toll, aber in der Karibik war ein großer sturm, da schien mir Hawaii sicherer. Der Rest war dann einfach Zufall. Expedia angeklickt, non stop plus gute Hotels angegeben, und dann Kauai gebucht. :jump:

Noch dazu bringt mich der United Flug über die nächste Meilengrenze, hat auch was. :gut:

Daher ging es dann spontan Samstag morgen los, klassisch für SF mit einem Irish Coffee im Terminal Buena Vista Café.

Und im United Terminal ist wenigstens auch die Verpflegung besser, denn der Flug ist mit 5 1/2 Stunden ja schon ganz schön lang.

Aber er war sehr angenehm, und wie es sich für eine Insel gehört, war der Flughafen mitsamt Baggage Claim dann luftig gebaut.

Gebucht hatte ich eigentlich einen Kleinwagen. Doch die nette Stewardess meinte ich sollte auf einen Jeep upgraden, damit ich auf der Insel überall hinkomme. Nach zwei Tagen kann ich sagen: Danke Cindy :gut:

Im Grand Hyatt waren wir 2009 auch - es ist ein sensationelles Hotel, der einzige Wermutstropfen ist, dass die Insel so viel zu bieten hat, dass man sich für jede Stunde am Pool etwas schämt... ;)

Nachdem Du einen Jeep hast: Der schönste Strand, an dem ich jemals war, ist der Polihale Beach im Nordwesten, direkt zu Füßen der Naapali-Klippen. Unbedingt hinfahren! Allein die Dirt Road dahin ist ein Erlebnis.

Hast recht, war noch nicht wirklich viel im Hotel, so schön das ist. Auch heute wieder nicht wirklich, habe ne Na Pali Bootstour gebucht. Und danke für den Tipp, hatte Mittwoch oder Donnerstag vor den Norden mit seinen Stränden zu erkunden. :gut:

Tom, Golf ist vermutlich morgen dran, Super schöner Platz neben dem Hotel, wo Tiger Woods früher in Reihe gewonnen hat. Bedeutet also das ich bescheiden spielen werde ;)

Wir sind auch gerade auf Kauai. Mal wieder mit Freunden im Schlepptau, die zuvor in Vegas geheiratet haben.
Sogar ganz in Deiner Nähe - Kiahuna Plantation ;-)
Wir wissen also worüber Du berichtest. :-)

OK, HI BBQ wirst Du selbst auf Kauai schwer finden. In Hanapepe gibt es das "da Imu Hut (1-3959 Kamualii Hwy)". Die haben allerdings unregelmässig geöffnet, also besser vorher anrufen und nachfragen. Wenn Du hier niemanden kennst sind Dir die Ohana BBQ`s verschlossen. Das gleiche gilt für die Luau`s. Das beste Luau, aus Touri-Sicht ist wohl das Kilohana kurz vor Lihue (hören sagen).
Warst Du schon beim Kalalau Lookout? Falls nicht, am besten vor 12. Wenn Du später hinfährst kann es sein, das alles vernebelt ist und Du nix siehst.

Ich komme gerade von einer wunderschönen Boots Tour zurück entlang der Na Pali Küste. Hatte Glück, das Boot war nur halb voll, scheint so dass zumindest die US Touris wieder weg sind, ist ja auch klar, die Woche hat wieder begonnen. Und viele Urlaubstage haben die hier nicht. So waren auf dem Schiff auch nur 2 Amis, plus 3 Kiwis, 3 Mädels aus der Schweiz, und 2 Berliner.

Also fest in Deutsch sprachiger Hand ;)

War aber genug Sonne für heute, daher schaue ich ein bissle Monday Night Football, genieße einen Cocktail, und lasse den ersten Tag hier auf Kauai Revue passieren.

Wer mich kennt weiß das ich ein Frühaufsteher bin. Hat den Vorteil das man viel geschafft bekommt während die meisten Leute noch schlafen. Das Wetter war dann auch ein wenig freundlicher als am Vortag.
