Update
g340 reported today that he dropped off his GMT-C with the New York RSC who indicated "they have seen situations like this before, but that it is uncommon."
The watch will be mailed back to him. If there are "after" pictures, I will post them.

Does not seem to be a toolwatch anymore-----too sad.
Good thing ´bout the old scapmetal inserts is that you can replace them yourself for a couple of bucks. I hope they resolve the problem but I guess we will see pictures like these quite frequently in the future as more and more of the ceramic bezeled watches come into circulation.Beste Grüsse, Olli

yes, apparently he had the watch repaired within 24 hours:
A few days later, he dropped off his GMT-C with the New York RSC who indicated "they have seen situations like this before, but that it is uncommon." Rolex indicated that the bezel insert is a press fit and held by the beveled edges of the bezel ring. g340 indicated that his visit to the RSC in New York was a "good experience." The watch was repaired in 24 hours and mailed back to him.
I have it posted at http://www.minus4plus6.com/photos/photo34.htm
