Thema: GMT-C Bezel Insert Fell Out
-
01.06.2009, 02:19 #1 GMT-C Bezel Insert Fell Out GMT-C Bezel Insert Fell Outg340 posted his experience of having a GMT-C bezel insert falling out of his watch at an airport security check. He sent me the images to post on his behalf and here are the thumbnails. Larger versions of the images are posted at http://www.minus4plus6.com/photos/photo34.htm#ceramic

Has anyone else had or heard of this on other GMT-C's. Was there a resolution other than having an RSC address it.

Here's the watch head and the ceramic bezel that fell out. Good thing g340 found it before it broke.

Here is a close up of the watch head and the bezel sans insert

 Here is the insert

 ... and the insert underside...

I look forward to reading about the resolution after this watch visits the AD and the RSC. No doubt a local watchmaker can fix this insert.

Here a schematic of the assembly for reference. The .pdf of the schematic posted in the US patent document is posted at http://www.minus4plus6.com/pdf/GMTII-SUBBezel.pdf

01.06.2009, 08:09 #4i just went through Airport control
 Bezel stayed inside.

Interessant aber dennoch, dass die Einlage wohl nur eingepresst ist, also kein Kleinkram drunter, der rausfallen könnte, so wie das ausschaut...Viele Grüße, Manuel

Seems that the inlay is rather glued to the bezel than pressed. At least what I can see from the pictures. Gruß Peter Gruß Peter

The security check was the last part of a intensive story. Look at the condition of the bracelet. The watch didn't came out 30 years ago!
How did you "use" that watch before you did reach finally the airport???

Ich habe übrigens noch nie eine Keramiklünette abgenommen. Ich kann nicht sagen, wie was genau aussieht...

I'd imagine gluing would be the only way of fixing the bezel as ceramics would probably not take a pressure fit without breaking or splintering.Originally posted by pelue

01.06.2009, 18:02 #18He is going to take it to a Rolex Service Center in NY. If it is fake, they will tell him on the spot... The owner indicated that he purchased the watch last November. Let's sure hope that it is not a fake...
