    John,

    wonderful article. I saw a third variation recently, where the GMT- MASTER looks like the "-" sign is closer to the GMT than to the Master. Found a pic, this is what it looks like:

    Great Article

    John, another great article. One question:

    16710A = 3185 Movement
    16710B = 3186 Movement?

    Or does the A and B designation indicate bezel color combination?

    Thanks,

    -Sheldon

    Guys - I'm trying to get more clarity on the point right now, but apparently the alpha designation next to the model number for the GMT Master II actually denotes the choice of bezel insert (red/blue, wine/black, or all black). So "16710B" simply refers to the 16710 with the red/blue bezel, and nothing more.

    I had never seen Rolex express the GMT's model number this way, though preliminary indications are its a fairly new thing within the last year or two. Though why Rolex whould change how they express the model number two years before they discontinue the model is another issue.... :001_rolleyes::cursing:

    So stay tuned...looks like the article isn't finished yet.
