Why? I have no idea, I only know when:

I had a friend in high school (boarding school) who wore a Pepsi GMT. Someone in the dorm told me that P. wore a Rolex. I only knew that Rolex watches were expensive and I asked P. if I could have a look at it. I don´t know why but I was impressed with it, maybe only because it was expensive.

Some two or three years later I started thinking about getting a watch for myself when I was 20. I met someone (friend of a friend) who had a Submariner back then. I did some research and wanted a Submariner myself.

I found out that I couldn´t afford one so I ended up buying another watch that was historically significant: a Speedmaster Professional. I wore that for many years and I was always happy with it.

Still I thought about a Sub every now and then but it took me ten more years until I bought a 14060M. Now it gets more wristtime than any other watch.

I like the feel of the Sub on my wrist. I like that I can do whatever I want with it (I dropped the Speedmaster before and it stopped working and I broke a pusher off of it). The Sub is care-free, just a nice no-nonsense mechanical watch, reliable and accurate. I´ll spend some time on the playgroudn over the weekend with my nephew and niece and I wouldn´t wear a Calatrava there. The Sub is more of a companion to all places.

Cheers-
Nico
