What year 904L?

Does anyone know what year Rolex began using 904L grade stainless steel in their watches, and what grade was used previous to 904L?

I think the current standard of knowledge says: 316L until 1988 with the introduction of Ref. 168000

I will say in 1988 thay start with the SS 904L at the last Ref 168000 Sub
with date. Beofre that they use SS 1916.

Thanks much guys...I see there isn't complete agreement from our respondants on this topic.

I'm not familiar with 1916L...does it rate somewhere between 316L and 904L?
