Zur Erklärung:

The "CNEXO" Seadweller ref. 16660
Altough with a standard matt dial , the seadweller made for the CNEXO company is by far rarer than the Comex 16660.
I bought the watch in 2001 near Toulon from a former Cnexo diver who was at that time working in the “ oil milieu “ in Africa.
some details about the watch :
1) the hands were changed by the diver in the middle of the '90 with a new set ( still with tritium ) as the original one was unable to glow in the dark ; I have left them as the contrast with the yellow indexes does not
disturb me.
2) the case has arrived unpolished to the present days ( there are some
light scratches that I obviously leave ... ).
3) from the case number the watch is one of the very first sapphire glass
seadweller ( 1982 ) ; it has a special back with the same engravings of the older model with plastic glass ( 1665 ) : the word “ original ” is not present , while standard backs for 16660 ( including Comex of the 1st batch ) have also this word . this is my opinion could be a sort of "interim" back ( however this is the only "Cnexo" I have seen untill now and so I can't say which kind of back the others have ).
4) the name of the company and the delivery number are drilled (and not engraved ) as they were certainly made at Geneva ( the bottom is very flat ..... ). altough letters and numbers are much smaller than those for Comex watches , the fonts used and all the features of the drilled letters are the same I have seen in Comex watches ( "smooth bottom" for example ).
5) in the inside of the back is engraved the complete case number.
6) the batch is very small ( around 15-20 pieces according to the infos I have got ) as the Cnexo company didn’t use a big number of divers ( this small production is confirmed by the dial without particular printings , as Rolex has always made “special dials” only for big batches , for example in the range of 100 or more ). some details about the company :
a) CNEXO is the abbreviation of “ Centre National pour l’Exploitation des Oceans”, a public company created in 1968 for all kinds of researches in deep seas ; as Comex they also made "covered" missions for the French
government ( the company could be defined as a sort of "public Comex").
b) Cnexo made also many operations with Comex and was commissioned
by the Italian government to pick up the sunken DC 9 in the sea of Ustica ( 1980 ).
c) in 1984 the company merged with ISTPM ( “Institut Scientifique et Techique des Pechès Maritimes” ) in the actual IFREMER .
