You'll want to hand wash your garment without submerging using a mild detergent like Dawn dishwashing liquid diluted with water (1-2 drops of detergent should suffice) AND/OR use a solution that's 1/3 part white vinegar diluted with 2/3 warm water and use a soft scrub brush to clean. It might take more than one washing to get it all clean for you. This does strip the wax finish off so you will need to re-wax your item with Filson's Oil Finish Wax (http://www.filson.com/filson-oil-finish-wax.html) to maintain the water repelling properties.
