Rolex got stolen during Airport Security Check ...

Hello guys,

Rolex Airport Security Check

just found this one here .. which reminded me that I also took my watch off during security check sometimes. These guys seem to love to give me a thorough second check too .. sweeping my laptop and the works .. just short of somebody sticking his finger up my .. dont get me wrong, Airport security is necessary but why always me ?? And I mean ALWAYS ..

Once a TSA guy told me when I lined up for the screening; .. "we recommend that you take your shoes off" .. well that is really some trouble because I always wear shoes with laces. They also never have chairs where you could sit down after the check to put your shoes back on. Since that was a only recommendation, I kept them on. At least until the TSA guy got a bit annoyed with me .. But hey, I am German, I do not receive such fine tunes. Kind of like saying Bathroom or Restroom when you actually mean Toilet. After all, you dont want to take a bath or even take a rest but take a pee for crying out loud .. Nothing to be ashamed of, is there?

Well, I was in London last week (flying from Berlin). At both security checks, I put my watch in on of these robust cases for eyeglasses and put them deep into my rucksack. It's stupid to x-ray a watch, what kind a bomb should fit in there? However, my if the watch is buried in the bag it's more difficult to steale it.

Regarding the toilets, look out for lavatories... or try "where's the loo"?

Das kann wohl nur ein Native-Speaker klären - klingt schon speziell, aber warum nicht... Ich würde mich eher an dem "sense" stören

Now that is an interesting fact, I am not sure, whether this applies to German or EU legislation; i.e. for security controls at airports.

I do not think that they take any responsibility for lost items during screening?

Does anyone know a factual law that applies here?

Yes, this topic has been discused a couple of times in this forum. It also happened to myself a couple of years ago (=> Attention: German language threat!).

My personal solution is to keep my watch(es) in locked hand luggage.
As soon as anybody wants to see what's in there, they need me to open the case and I can keep an eye on my belongings...

anyone knows about the law? who is responsible for stolen items during a security scan?
