New research information on Patent Pending DRSD (DRSD)
love these early PPDRSD and I have been keeping detailed records on PPDRSD for years and its pretty clear to me that some trends are coming up. My record are far from perfect, but this is what I have so far and its worth sharing.
I will leave some critical details out to protect from fakes..I hope that you understand.
Lets start with the serial numbers.
They were made in three distinct batches much like other special delivery watches.
a) 1.7
b) 2.1 (most common, most mark I dials, most serials are consecutive or close)
c) 2.2
What is interesting is that ALL the casebacks were made at the same time, the end of 1967 and the engraving inside the caseback is distinctive and poorly made.
Subsequently, the casebacks from 1967 were married to the cases in those three batches above.
Dials.
The Mark I is the most common, followed by mark II, no mark III or IV. Yet the mark I dial remain the rarest of all compared to the whole DRSD production.
If you own one of these watches and would like to help me complete my database to help other collectors, I would love to hear from you.. rolexcomex at gmail.com
