I have to admit, that I like the new 116610 a LOT more than I thought I would.

I can't precisely say why - on one hand, I've not been overly enthused by the other ceramic "supercase" models I've seen...at least not enough to want to buy one. But I honestly think I want to buy the new Sub.

I think one factor that pushed me over the edge was seeing that they went with a brushed bracelet. But I think I like the bezel execution better than I do on the GMT IIc. My problem with the black bezel on the SS GMT IIc is that the bezel color/shade "shifts" too much depending on the light. It can vary from a light grey to a deep black depending on the light shining on it. While I have nothing to back up the notion that the 116610 Sub bezel is done any differently than the GMT IIc, my impression based on the limited time I've spent with it is that it looks black much more consistently.

I've still got some question marks in my mind (mostly about the clasp being easier to scratch, and whether I can get past the lugs) but at this point, I honestly think I'd be OK with selling my 16610 and buying the 116610.

Thoughts?

John,

my thoughts regarding the new sub are similar to yours, and I think that this could well be my first Rolex which I will buy brandnew from an authorized dealer. That would be quite an accomplishment since I have always bought my watches used in the past.

The new sub combines the better bracelet with the same mechanism to size it as the Deepsea. The new bracelet is so much better than the old ones. At the same time, the Deepsea feels to big for my wrist whereby the new sub would be just right. Especially, the new sub would not be as high on the wrist as the Deepsea.

I think it will take a few months until the first subs come out in Germany, so I still have time...

Hi John,

I am not considering buying it because I donīt need more than one Sub ;)

I think it is a far better watch than the 16610, though. If I didnīt have a watch, Iīd wait for the 116610 to hit the stores and buy it instead of a 16610.

The lugs are fine for me - thatīs just Rolexī design for the 21st century. The bracelet and clasp are finally on par with the case work.

I myself havenīt noticed the bezel to be "more black" than on the GMT but then again I didnīt pay much attention to it, either... I liked it very much, though :gut:

One thing I know is that youīre not going to be disappointed, I bet itīs as great a watch as it can get.

Looking forward to seeing your wristshots ;)

John & Boris,

I am of the other opinion. I donīt like the proportions of the big block case in combination with the bracelet . The bracelet is better without any doubt.

I have already ordered the green one, though I still dislike the new housing.

BUT: I like the looks of the new Submariner more than the looks of the new GMT.

WHY: It's the new typo on the GMT's ceramic inlay. I put an older, aluminum inlay on the bezel - and it changed the looks of the 116710 dramatically. The housing didn't look that baggy, the whole watch did look more harmonious.

The 116610 kept the old typo - and as we all could see in John's comparison of his 16713 and the 116613 - this makes the two watches not that easy to check on the first look like her GMT sister.

Conclusion: My 116610LV is ordered and I can't await to look at the golden/green dial!

Have a nice weekend,
Kurt

@Boris: The Submariner and the DeepSea do NOT have the same "fine tune" mechanism in the bracelet!

Best regards,
Kurt

@ Kurt: Would please add a pic of your "customized" 116710 :jump:

Sorry, Frank, I did not "customize" it - I just laid the inlay over the ceramic one. Sure looked much better!

I'd prefer the ceramic inlay with the old font.

Best regards,
Kurt

non polished bracelet looks much better than with. I will have to try the new Sub on my wrist to see if it "connects" to me, if not also good, one less thing to worry about :D

Interesting point with the bezel, I will have to pay extra attention to the subs one once I get hold of one...

Hi Kurt,

it looked like the same mechanism in the pictures??? Did you see the new Sub bracelet, what is really different?

Koenig Kurt

Boris, that's what I read here, no personal experience. If this is wrong I'm sorry.
Could be that it only meant the diver's extension.

Best regards,
Kurt

Ok Kurt,

I don't know much either. Just looking at the pictures I can find online. I guess there is no way around checking the watch in real once it appears on the market... ;)

Well, the clasp won't be much different from the 116618/9's and 116613's clasp, that is already available.

John, I myself already ordered the Hulk. Much more distinctive than the LV, and IMHO the best Sub for years. :gut:

Hi gents. Wow, the Sub has come a long way since my 5508 was made in 1958. Reading your comments has got me thinking that I must try one of these beauties on. Regards to all, Tylden.

I do not like the combination of the big block case with the small bracelet.
Kind regards
Volker

Yes

I agree with you Volker. The case looks to big and out of proportion on the bracelet.

Besides that I am currently broke, because I just picked up this vintage Beauty
