My AD called me on Friday and asked me if I was interested in one of those "GMT II's with the funny font?" She said their Rolex Rep delivered it in their latest shipment, but tried to buy it himself and told her that they're extremely rare. She wouldn't let him, and imediately called me. :D

Here's the pics of the new watch:

Yep, it does not have the traditional "II" in GMT II:

I wonder if that means that it has a caliber 3186 and not a 3185 inside? :confused1:

YES!!!

I love the Parachrom Blu hairspring:

Right now I'm wrestling with whether to keep it or posibly liquidate a couple of other watches to keep it (that would put my Sea-Dweller on the chopping block. ). I've had my Dweller for a lot of years, and love it, but I have three dive watch Rolex watches and not GMT right now...so I'm leaning toward keeping it.

Grats, John - does that mean you're a step further with your "blue-investigation" by proofing that these GMT's with the "funny font" have the 3186?

Well, my investigation actually has more to do with when the Parachrom Blu hairspring appeared on the Daytona. But this is clearly another anomoly from Rolex...not sure how the 3186 got in these GMT's. :grb:

Great catch, John, congrats! :dr:

Tough call on whether to keep it or not... I know that you do love the Seadweller, too, and I can see it on quite a few wristshots of yours. Anyway, whichever way you go you canīt go wrong. I do like the GMT more than the Dweller but thatīs just me ;)

Congratulation John - a 16710 with the new caliber is very nice and not very common.
But let me put it this way: " The minute it goes out the door youīre gonna be missing that Sea-Dweller of yours"

Either keep the GMT as an addition to your collection or sell something else.

I think you're probobly right - I sold my last GMT II about four years ago, and have missed it a bit. It's fun to wear and to photograph.

I think after 5 years I might be a little bored with my Sea-Dweller. We'll see.

John,

I really like the GMT II especially the Pepsi-Bezel version very much - on photos and on other peopleīs wrists. When somebody posts a few nice shots of a 16710 BLRO I drool for days about owning one but every time I try one on I back away because something just doesnīt feel right.
For me, the flimsy Twinlock just doesnīt cut it - itīs supposed to be a toolwatch so whatīs that all about.

And regarding keeping the SD although you have three other Rolex divewatches: as two of them are 1680 Submariners if I remember correctly you shouldnīt really count them in. RedSubs always run outside of the competition so all you really have is that nice 16613 of yours. And I wouldīt take that one on a diving trip to Crab Key if you know what I mean ;)

The 16600 is the perfect beater for the times you can not- or donīt want to- take your other Rolexes.

Just my 2 ct.

If it is an option, keep them both and push a few late hours at the job - well worth it in my opinion :D

Your logic is sound, but here in Ohio, there just aren't many diving opportunities.

I did get to go diving wearing my Sea-Dweller once - it was a thrill:

Yep...my honeymoon. :] There's an article about the whole experience in the travel section of my Rolex site listed below. I too love Cozumel - been there three times so far.

John,

congrats on the new GMT II. It is a great watch, though I would never sell the Dweller. It is a discontinued model just like the GMT. I promise, you will miss it sooner than later.

If you are still not sure, you might want to read this article about the Dweller, I think the author loves his watch very much ;) ;) ;).

I do as well....I've been on a couple of RCCL cruises. We'll probobly go on a smaller one next time though...it was a neat experience, but that's a LOT of folks on one ship.
