Hi People
Just going through Ebay and came across this.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120230381139&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching
Seems a bid odd to me as the seller says it is gold plated, I did not think that Rolex plated their watches? also very cheap.
Could be that he is not sure what he has or is it a fake? what do you experts reckon..
Regards Brian

This is definitely a fake.
However, there are some gold-plated Rolex out there. Sometimes you come across so called "Rolled-Gold" Rolexes from the 50s and 60s (and 70s? :ka:), usually Air-King or Date models. They are made of steel and only the (quite thin) top layer is made of 14 or 18k yellow gold. But they are not very expensive. Eventually, Rolex stopped production and everything that seems to be golden actually is made of gold :supercool:
Rolled Gold is an old-fashioned way of adding bling to your steel. Nowadays, you galvanise gold over your non-precious metal, thus creating a 5 to 20 micron thick layer of gold. Back then, when the method of galvanisation was yet to be discovered, one just rolled or pressed a thin layer of gold sheet over the carrier which would be made of steel, brass or such. The gold layer is thicker and the method itself is way more complicated since you had to build certain molds and stamps in order to cover the carrier with the gold layer. Today, to you basically just dip it in a liquid that contains ionised precious metal, run electric power through it and the magic is done :D (in real life, it's a little more complicated, but not THAT more :D)

This screams fake, I don't understand how people can be bidding close to 1000 Dollars for such crap??? Are they retarded?

A little retardation definitely helps :D Anyway, pic #3 shows another watch than pic#1, so the case is quite clear.

Guys, when you buy expensive watches and other pricey toys, don't go after the pictures, but please do yourself a favor, check the sellers. Don't buy the watch, but buy the seller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That will be key to a successful transaction. Second come the pictures, but they can be true or not, they can be taken from someone else, anything goes. This guy here took some pictures from someone else, and contributed his fake pictures as well, it is so obvious. So sad! Report him to Ebay if you didnt already do so. Ebay will take his auction off.
you know what they say...if its too good to be true...then it most likely is...

Hi gents
Thanks for the info, Just to let you know I had no intention of bidding for this watch I was just interested to see what you all thought about it, also the listing has been removed by ebay so perhaps he has learnt his lesson!
Best Brian
