OK guys, if you found yourself in the unenviable position of having to liquidate your collection, and could only keep ONE, which one would it be?

For me, taking my personal preferences and practicality into account, I'd keep my TT Submariner. It is, for many reasons, my favorite watch to wear. So if I have to have a one and only, I want to like to wear it!

That seems to be an easy question. The ONE I would keep is:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v463/MatthiasRBO/watches/1655gro.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v463/MatthiasRBO/watches/1655set.jpg
Not because it is a rare model today, but because it was my first Rolex and a gift from my father in 1979.

But wait a minute….. What to do with my Day-Date 18038:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v463/MatthiasRBO/watches/18038dial.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v463/MatthiasRBO/watches/18038set.jpg

Now the dilemma starts: The Day-Date was bought by my father in 1982 and was his watch for special occasions. Unfortunately may father died in 2000 and 4 weeks before his death he gave the Day-Date to me for keeping it well.

And if the question would be extended from Rolex also to other brands, the question would become nearly impossible to answer for me.

E.g.: The first Omega from my father, bought 1954:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v463/MatthiasRBO/watches/30mm.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v463/MatthiasRBO/watches/garantie30mm.jpg

And what to do with my first Breitling, bought 1973:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v463/MatthiasRBO/watches/breit2110.jpg

So I have to correct my first statement: It is NOT an easy question because memories and family traditions are linked to some of my watches. Selling those watches would mean also selling a part of myself. Maybe I´m to sentimental (I know, these are ONLY watches…), but hopefully I will never come into a situation, that I really have to ask this question to myself.

Best Regards
Matthias

newharry

A question hard to answer - but Matthias brought up some great aspects - at least for me.

All my Rolexes I have bought myself - I simply do not know which one I would keep if there could only be one. In my opinion that is also a very hypothetical question - I one had to give up the collection but for one wtach - what would be the reason? Money? Then it would be hard to argue that the one to keep would perhaps be the most expensive ...

But there is one watch I would hardly part with - the one I got on the occasion of my high school graduation:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v408/newharry/omega-3.jpg

Also from 1954 as the one of Matthias ... 13373446 vs. 13141xxx ;)

The one I'll probably keep is my LV as it was offered by my wife. But let my 5513 with huge indices (as big as on the LV) go would be a tragedy.....

Hello Redsubmariner,

This is a 1978 5513, (5,6 million), but I rarelly (in fact never) see such big markers on 5513, even the one on the so called "maxi dials" (with markers touching the minute sticks) are not so large. The watch was overhauled by RSC Rolex in 2005 and they obviously don't care about these details (I asked and they smiled....).
Rgds.
