...Rolex......??
It's pretty obvious by now that I am bitten hard by the Rolex bug.
The thing what attracts me the most to Rolex is the shape of the watch cases.
I have no idea who or when the cases where designed, but Rolex struck gold with them that's for sure... :gut: :gut: :gut:
Besides the cases I have a weakness for movements, Rolex also makes bulletproof movements, a great combo IMO.. :dr:
So, why did you fall in love with Rolex?
Why? I have no idea, I only know when:
I had a friend in high school (boarding school) who wore a Pepsi GMT. Someone in the dorm told me that P. wore a Rolex. I only knew that Rolex watches were expensive and I asked P. if I could have a look at it. I donīt know why but I was impressed with it, maybe only because it was expensive.
Some two or three years later I started thinking about getting a watch for myself when I was 20. I met someone (friend of a friend) who had a Submariner back then. I did some research and wanted a Submariner myself.
I found out that I couldnīt afford one so I ended up buying another watch that was historically significant: a Speedmaster Professional. I wore that for many years and I was always happy with it.
Still I thought about a Sub every now and then but it took me ten more years until I bought a 14060M. Now it gets more wristtime than any other watch.
I like the feel of the Sub on my wrist. I like that I can do whatever I want with it (I dropped the Speedmaster before and it stopped working and I broke a pusher off of it). The Sub is care-free, just a nice no-nonsense mechanical watch, reliable and accurate. Iīll spend some time on the playgroudn over the weekend with my nephew and niece and I wouldnīt wear a Calatrava there. The Sub is more of a companion to all places.
Cheers-
Nico

Looks like for a lot of people who love Rolex, the speedy was the start to get into collecting nice watches... I am one of them, my first better watch was the speedy which I still have, with box, papers everything. Bought in Finland.

First i had all kinds,.. Heuer Monaco, IWC Aquatimer (first edition), IWC Big Pilot,... Panerai.... Jaeger, Patek,..
Because i wasn't into Rolex,.. Submariners where or fake student watches or Hot Shots,...
Then Philipp showed me a vintage one,.. where all that aspects dropped right away....
And i was falling in love...
Since then i sold everything else,... and Rolex stayed....

It`s hard to explain why you fall in love, cause when you analyze it the magic may fade away.
I like the design of the Rolex-watches and how fine and accurate they are build and work.
Like many of you, i own a Omega Speedmaster too. But i purchased the Speedmaster after my Submariner.
Kind regards

was a fake bi-colour Datejust my friend was given for his 16th birthday.
Then one day, after drooling over a brand new Ferrari Testarossa in the Ferrari dealership in Doha where we lived, I looked in to the window of the jewellers next door, where there was a platinum and diamond Rolex Day-Date which was more expensive than the Ferrari...
From that moment, I was hooked on Rolex...
:grb:
I had three IWCs when a friend told me about a thing on the www called "The r-l-x-forum". I started to read the threads and began to think about a Rolex-Submariner. But: I needed a date and I didn't like the magnifier, so the Rolex-project was canceled. One day I saw a watch on the forum in Sub-style, with date and without magnifier. The thing was called Sea-Dweller, never heard of it before, but fell in love rightaway. Well, the 16600 was the first one, a 16660 followed and now I start thinking about a 1665...
