No offense, but Delgado, this is a strange Panerai? What is the story about this Panerai?

Yes Ed,

the 1936 looks great,.... had it on my wrist,... but not my style,.... but every time it's in a image it looks fantastic.
Philipp had one, where he did put a bracelet on, which was made from this old, old leather with fantastic patina,.... so it looked just like the original one from 1936.... wooooowwwww even 10 times better THEN NEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy!
Bernhard

I had several pams in the past including a nice vintage collection but they did not exited me the same way that rolex did..so they were sold. This is the only one that I would considered due to the resemblance of the original Rolex version with the california dial and no name on the dial....very nice..

Andre, no offense taken, its not for everyone. The original Panerai had case, movements and sometimes dials made by Rolex, so there is a connection..

Philipp,,thanks for the link, I will get a similar strap..

yes, a tropical dialed 1680 with a scratched crystal. :) I will post some more scans later..

Ed - you raise a good question, and I'm going to bring up the subject with Hannes.

I personally think the rules of topicality should be pretty loose here on the English Forum. One could argue that this post should have gone elsewhere on R-L-X, but since this is the only English-only forum on the site, it would have made it problematic for you and everyone here in this forum had you done so.

I'm going to propose to Hannes that non-Rolex related topics be "on topic" within reason here on the R-L-X English Forum.

Hey guys,

If Panerai originally had all Rolex parts, what was the connection between the two companies? Was Panerai a spinoff from Rolex? Who were the founders of Panerai? Would love to find about more about the history of the company as I know nothing about them. The 1936 Panerai, what is the background on this watch? Is it a vintage watch? Or just a new watch with a vintage aura?

Thanks for any explanations.

My understanding is that Panerai just used Rolex movements in some of their first models. The cases and other parts were made by Panerai.

I think you are partly correct but they also used rolex caseback and brevet crowns from Rolex.

redsub..here is some background history from paneristi.com
